The main idea behind registration of an instrument is to collect Stamp Duty (Note: Stamp Duty is collected by Collector of Stamps and registration of the documents is done by Registrar/Sub-Registrar). It also provides sanctity to the document. Once the Stamp Duty has been paid, the instrument is registered by Sub-Registrar after verifying the other details.
